About the Project
A Calm Space for Connection
The Gladstone Suicide Bereavement Support Group (GSBSG) is a vital part of our local community, providing a judgment-free space for those navigating the unimaginable. Having known Deb for many years, Nightowl Design Studio wanted to contribute to their mission in the best way we know how – by building a digital home that is as welcoming and supportive as their monthly gatherings.
The Challenge
For many people looking for support, the hardest step is simply finding where to start. GSBSG needed a way to share their “Cuppa Catch Up” dates and support resources without overwhelming visitors who might already be feeling stretched thin. The goal was to replace a cluttered information search with a clear, calming experience that guides people toward help.
The Strategy: Accessibility & Empathy
We moved away from the idea of a traditional, multi-page site. Instead, we focused on a clean, intentional one-page layout. This “Strategy & Structure” approach ensures that whether someone is looking for a one-on-one conversation or a community event, the answer is right in front of them. We also implemented on-page search strategy to ensure that when someone in the Gladstone region is looking for these specific local services, GSBSG is the first name they see.
The Structure: Removing the Technical Burden
The GSBSG team does incredible work on the ground, and they shouldn’t have to spend their time wrestling with website plugins. We noticed that most event software was far too complex and expensive for what they needed. To solve this, we built a custom, 100% dynamic event system from scratch. It’s designed to be completely hands-off—it automatically updates to show only current and future events, ensuring the site is always accurate without needing manual maintenance.
The Result
By bridging the gap between technical execution and a compassionate cause, we’ve provided GSBSG with a professional platform that grows with their group. It’s a fast, secure, and reliable resource that helps ensure no one in our region has to navigate their journey alone.
