Technical Precision and Fighting Spirit
Toogee Martial Arts is more than just a Taekwondo school; it is a community dedicated to the “Fighting Spirit.” With locations across New South Wales, Queensland, and Papua New Guinea, they offer a comprehensive curriculum that blends traditional Korean systems with modern self-defence. As an Instructor myself, I knew the website needed to reflect the discipline and precision we practice on the mats.
The Challenge
The existing website had become a victim of “plugin bloat.” Built with a visual page builder many years ago, it was struggling with slow load times and poor performance metrics. For a brand that represents military-style discipline, having a sluggish, unoptimised website wasn’t acceptable. The goal was to reclaim that performance while making the site a primary tool for its most important objective: new student sign-ups — with a particular focus on the families deciding where to enrol their kids.
The Strategy: Stripping Away the Unnecessary
In martial arts, every movement should have a purpose. We applied that same logic to the code. Our strategy was to “de-clutter” the digital space, removing outdated technologies and unnecessary add-ons that were slowing things down. We brightened the visual identity — built around a navy and red palette and Korean heritage motifs — and refocused the layout to guide potential students, and the parents enrolling them, logically toward a free trial class or an enquiry, ensuring the user journey was as efficient as a well-executed pattern.
The Structure: Custom Logic for a Growing Organisation
Technically, we built a highly sophisticated backend that is deceptively simple to use. With dojangs spread across three countries, we built a hierarchical location structure — Country, State, Region, Sub-Region, down to individual Dojang — paired with an interactive map so families can find their nearest location at a glance. We also bypassed the “one-size-fits-all” event plugins that are often overpriced and cluttered, building a bespoke events calendar instead. A belt journey animation on the homepage helps visualise the path a new student takes from white belt onward, reinforcing the sense of progression that matters most to parents weighing up a long-term commitment. This is a “hard-working employee” that handles the admin so the team doesn’t have to.
The Result
The result is a high-performance, completely dynamic platform that represents the true essence of Toogee Martial Arts. The foundation is now rock-solid, fast, and built around welcoming new families in — ready to support the next generation of students across Australia and PNG.
