Calliope River Historical Village Website Rebuild

About the Project
Preserving Local History for a New Generation
The Calliope River Historical Village is a cornerstone of the Gladstone region, home to over 20 museums and the area’s largest country market. When their long-term developer retired, the Village’s dedicated team of volunteers needed a new technical partner they could trust to maintain their legacy while bringing their website into the modern era.
The Challenge
The existing website had been well-cared for, but it was starting to show its age. Built on older technology, it had become slow to load and difficult to update. The challenge was to perform a “ground-up” rebuild that felt familiar to their loyal community but functioned with the speed and security of a 2026 website.
The Strategy: Refreshing the Foundation
During our discovery phase, we decided to stick with the heart of the original theme to ensure consistency for the Village’s users. However, we didn’t just copy the old site; we improved it. We brightened the color palette and replaced aging photos with optimized, high-quality imagery. This didn’t just “breathe life” back into the design—it significantly improved the technical foundation and site speed.
The Structure: Solving the “Market Stall” Puzzle
One of the most important parts of the project was fixing the stallholder booking process. The previous site used a convoluted eCommerce system for a task that didn’t actually require a full online store. In line with our preference for custom, efficient code, we built a bespoke booking form from scratch. This removed the technical “bloat” and created a straightforward, logical path for stallholders to secure their spots at the markets.
The Result
The result is a fast, reliable, and user-friendly platform that acts as a hard-working member of the volunteer team. By bridging the gap between historical charm and modern technical execution, we’ve ensured that the Calliope River Historical Village remains a leading destination for locals and visitors alike.

We at Calliope River Historical Village have had the good fortune to discover “Nightowl Design Studio” who have recently set up a web site for our business.
Daniel has been most helpful even with the silliest questions. He has worked along-side our suggestions and requests in a very prompt manner.
The transition has been smooth with only a few speed bumps quickly ironed out and we have found the fees quite manageable.
